Fiat Tipo Craps Out

Q. Hi, I have a 1989 1.6 Fiat Tipo, and for some reason or another it keeps on stopping when it feels like it! It usually happens when I slow down toward lights, it just cuts off and it can sometimes be difficult to start again. It's not a stall, it just stops quickly, and it can also be jumpy when accelerating.

A. I'm not to familiar with Fiats. Generally when one pulls into the driveway I turn on the Closed sign.

Seriously though, it sounds to me like there is a bad connection somewhere. If it is like turning the key off, the first thing you should do is to check all the connectors. Unplug them, one at a time, and make sure they are clean and tight. You can use a piece of medium emory cloth to make sure there is no corrosion. Check the coil terminal connections and make sure they are clean and tight. And don't forget the battery connections as well. Trace out the wiring harness and make sure there are no wires rubbed bare and grounding out.

I'm sure you'll find something there causing the problem. If not, you will need to take it to a shop that has Fiat experience to locate the problem.
