Brake Noise

Q. I had new front brakes installed four months ago and they are squeaking something terrible.

When I had the front end repaired, is it possible that the lines of the brake fluid have been damaged? I ask this because it occurred to me to check the fluid. It was low and after I filled it the noise has practically disappeared.

Please advise.

A. Low brake fluid will, sometimes, cause a brake squeal. The most common cause is just plain old dust. If the fluid level was low, it's probably because the master cylinder was not filled after the brake work was done. There is a possibility the brake hoses were damaged and are leaking brake fluid. I would have them checked as soon as possible for this.
